The Humane Society of El Paso often encounters potential adopters hoping to rescue a Siberian Husky. Huskies are instantly recognizable, and known far and wide for their beauty. Some adopters, however, may not be aware of the challenges Husky owners face. The American Kennel Club characterizes Huskies as loyal, outgoing, but also mischievous. Huskies, in addition to being beautiful, are also known for their skills of escape. Many Huskies end up at shelters because they escape their yards while following their natural drive to explore. It is important that a new Husky owner be prepared to face the difficulties of having a Husky, in addition to reaping the benefits of having a life-long and loyal best friend.
The Humane Society of El Paso has recently connected with the Siberian Husky Rescue of New Mexico to help Huskies in our community find the home that is right for them. All animals deserve a great home, but due to the eccentricity of most Huskies, the HSEP reached out to our friends in New Mexico for guidance and support. The Siberian Husky Rescue of New Mexico is a foster-based rescue, and cares for dozens of beautiful, playful, and mischievous Husky and Husky mixed rescues. Together, we are hoping to save many more lives and build more familes, four paws at a time.
If you are looking to adopt a Husky, please check out their website! Not only will you find information on all of their rescues, but you will also find great information about properly caring for a Husky. If you are not in a place to adopt, please also consider donating. The HSEP is fortunate to have the support of a great community, and it would be pawesome for some of that support to help our new friends in New Mexico.
