You are about to encounter a lifesaving — and life changing — experience. There’s nothing like the joy and companionship that our shelter pets share with us. You saved their life! In return, they will fill yours. Let’s cover some important information to make the process easier.
Adoption Requirements
You must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license or state-issued I.D. to adopt from the HSEP. You will need to fill out an application and sign a contract as part of the adoption process. Please check with your housing manager and landlord for rules regarding pets.
The Adoption Application and Contract may be reviewed and filled out before visiting the shelter.
Dog Adoption Fees
Puppies: $230 (8 to 15 weeks old)
Dogs: $139.50 (16 weeks and older)
High Profile Dog Breeds: $300
Dogs who have been available for adoption for over 60 days, are 7 years or older, or bonded pairs: $70.00*
Long Term Residents: Adoption Fee Waived (Length of Stay 6 months or more)
An additional $12.50 city license fee may apply for any animal that has received its rabies vaccination.
*Price is per dog and up to shelter discretion.
Cat Adoption Fees
Kittens: $120 (8 to 15 weeks old)
Cats: $95 (16 weeks and older)
High Profile Cat Breeds: $200
Long Term Residents: Adoption Fee Waived (Length of Stay 6 months or more)
An additional $12.50 city license fee may apply for any animal that has received its rabies vaccination.

Animal Returns Are Not Guaranteed
A $120 animal surrender fee will be charged for any returned shelter animals.
